According to Sanlam’s annual claims data for 2025, Sanlam paid out R6.89 billion in death and disability claims in 2025. Of severe illness claims among men, cancer accounted for 44%, with prostate cancer making up 30% of those severe illness claims. This was followed closely by cardiovascular conditions, with heart attacks and angioplasty contributing significantly to these claims. Additionally, data in the 2025 annual claim statistics report revealed that 58% of all disability (lump sum) claims came from men. The most common cause of income protection claims from males were for Accidents (23%). Income protection claims increased for both males and females, compared to 2024, for Mental disorders by 5%, for Musculoskeletal conditions by 5%.
